Colorectal Cancer Disparities
According to a research report by Giaquinto et., colorectal cancer statistics in 2022 for Black Americans are as follows1:
- CRC is the third most common cancer in Black men and women. CRC is also the third leading cause of cancer death in Black men and women.
- Black people have the second highest CRC incidence rate in the US following American Indians and
Alaska Natives. - Although incidence was historically higher in white people than Black people, a crossover occurred in the early 1990s due to a steeper decline among white people because of changing patterns in risk factors and slower dissemination of screening in the Black community.
The rates of CRC among young African Americans are increasing.
